U.S. Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, emphasized the significant investment of American companies in Guyana’s rapidly expanding oil and gas sector. Speaking on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the Guyana Energy Conference, she noted that the United States contributes not only technical expertise but also offers “fairness in price” and a commitment to long-term sustainability in projects.

Ambassador Theriot pointed out the visible presence of U.S. firms at the conference, citing ExxonMobil as a key sponsor. “You need to look no further than the lanyards everyone is wearing that say ExxonMobil,” she remarked, highlighting the deep involvement of American companies in the event.
As international attention on Guyana’s oil boom grows, Theriot reported an increasing interest from American firms eager to participate in the country’s energy narrative. “There are so many U.S. companies that are interested in being a part of Guyana’s story… it’s only getting more interesting,” she stated.
The Ambassador emphasized the strong value that the United States brings to Guyana’s energy development. “We bring quality, we bring longevity, we bring sustainability, and we bring fairness in price to all of the projects that we do,” she explained, positioning these factors as crucial for Guyana’s ongoing expansion in the oil and gas sector and its supporting industries.
Furthermore, Theriot highlighted the importance of corporate social responsibility in American involvement, particularly concerning workforce development. She remarked, “We also bring a very important corporate social responsibility, which includes labour training and bringing new skills to the table.” This focus is particularly essential as Guyana seeks to upscale its workforce to meet the demands of its booming petroleum industry.
Looking ahead to the next Energy Conference in 2027, Theriot indicated that U.S. participation will remain robust, reinforcing the partnership between the two countries in the energy sector. “It’s abundantly clear that the U.S. has great interest in continuing our really excellent relationship with Guyana’s oil and gas industry,” she affirmed.
