US Embassy Warns Against Birth Tourism
The US Embassy today issued a warning that using a visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States, with the intent of securing U.S. citizenship for the child, is not permitted. Consular officers will deny a visa application if they suspect this is the intent behind the travel to the US.

In a statement on its Facebook page addressing “birth tourism,” the Embassy emphasized that if someone already holds a visa and travels to the United States primarily to give birth, using Medicaid or other U.S. government assistance for medical care, that individual may jeopardize their eligibility for future visa renewals.
The US State Department has frequently cautioned against the practice of women traveling to the US on visitor visas solely to give birth, aiming to grant citizenship status to their children.
The US Government has been actively clamping down on this practice, with reported cases of pregnant women being denied entry into the US when questioned about the purpose of their trip. The current US Administration has taken a firm stance against birth tourism as part of broader efforts to curb illegal immigration.
