The General Secretary of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, Odessa Primus, has denied allegations of defaming PNC Reform Leader Aubrey Norton after Norton’s lawyer threatened legal action.

Norton, through his attorney, accused Primus of claiming he took money from Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo. Primus’s lawyer, Eusi Anderson, responded saying Primus never made the specific allegation attributed to her. Anderson said Primus’s actual remark was “tell your people who collecting Bharrat money,” and questioned whether Norton was truly being accused of collecting funds from the vice president. Anderson further stated there would be no apology or compensation.
Speaking on The Norman Browne Grapevine podcast last evening, Primus characterized Norton’s threatened lawsuit as petty and frivolous. She said Norton should concentrate on addressing the country’s problems and rebuilding his party after its poor showing in the last election, rather than pursuing legal action over her comments.
Primus also pointed to other public figures, including Bharrat Jagdeo, who she said had on occasion publicly criticised Norton without being sued, and named several individuals she said had posted or spoken against Norton without facing legal consequences. She urged Norton to focus on internal PNC Reform issues rather than litigation.
