Finance Minister Pays Tribute to Young Jockey

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh expressed condolences on behalf of the government to the family of young jockey Kishawan Pereira, who tragically died after a fall during the 17th Guyana Cup.

At a wake held at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Dr. Singh joined the horse racing community in mourning Pereira’s loss, stating, “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Pereira was riding ‘Blinding Lights’ when the horse stumbled, resulting in fatal injuries despite immediate medical attention. This incident marks the first fatality in the Guyana Cup’s 17-year history.

The Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee has extended their sympathies and announced a safety review of the track conditions.
