President Ali Denies Misuse of State Resources for Campaigning

  • News

President Irfaan Ali has rejected claims from The Carter Center regarding the misuse of state resources by the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) for political campaigning.

In response to allegations from political parties and civil society, Ali stated, “Absolutely not true,” emphasizing that his party’s campaign is fully funded by its supporters and fundraising efforts.

He noted that the PPP/C has conducted numerous fundraisers across the country, allowing them to gather sufficient resources without relying on state assets.

The Carter Center’s report also highlighted concerns about biased media reporting, the promotion of 2,800 police ranks before elections, and the announcement of toll-free crossings at major bridges.

On the issue of banks closing accounts for WIN candidates, Ali explained that banks operate within a global financial system and are subject to standards that are not dictated by the government. He emphasized that warnings about consequences were issued to those connected with WIN, led by businessman Azruddin Mohamed, who is under US sanctions.
