WIN Condemns Abandonment of Indigenous People as Human Rights Violation

We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) has issued a strong condemnation of the actions taken by the PPP, particularly through an agent named Ameir of Sheriff, for abandoning a group of Indigenous people, including women and children, in the open Rupununi Savannah.

In a statement, WIN described the incident as a “blatant violation of human rights, dignity, and decency” against Guyana’s first peoples. They characterized the abandonment as a breach of contractual duties by the operators involved, who they allege were manipulated by political opponents.

“This act is an affront to the values of justice, equality, and respect for Indigenous peoples, who have endured centuries of marginalization, discrimination, and neglect,” the statement read. WIN emphasized that forcibly removing and abandoning vulnerable individuals reflects a failure of governance and a disturbing disregard for human life.

The organization reaffirmed its respect for Indigenous peoples and their right to support any political party without intimidation. They denounced the act of leaving individuals on a hazardous road surrounded by savannah and potential dangers.

WIN has called for immediate accountability from the political forces responsible for this “shameful act.” They urged all citizens, leaders, and civil society to unite against such cruelty and advocate for the protection of every person’s right to dignity and fairness.

“This is not just about politics; it is about humanity. Justice must be served,” the statement concluded.
