The search for 21-year-old Surag Samaroo, affectionately known as “Tan Tan,” came to a heartbreaking conclusion on Thursday when a decomposed body was discovered at Annandale Beach, Region Two.

Samaroo had been reported missing six days prior, suffering from epilepsy, which added to the family’s concerns during the search. His mother had been desperately seeking help from the community, sharing her anguish in an emotional Facebook Live video.
“I hurt a lot; my son is not here with me anymore,” she lamented, recalling how he would visit her each morning for his tablet and tea. “I am accustomed to seeing him every morning. I don’t know where he is. I am begging each and everybody out there who could please help me find my son.”
Tragically, just two days after her heartfelt plea, police discovered the remains around 11:30 AM on Thursday. The body was found lying faced-up on the sand, dressed in a red and blue jersey and black and white three-quarter trousers, the same outfit Samaroo was last seen wearing.
Authorities reported that the remains showed significant decomposition, with the head, both hands, abdomen, and feet severely damaged. While Samaroo’s mother identified the body based on the clothing, police are awaiting DNA test results for official confirmation. An autopsy is also scheduled to be performed on the remains.
This tragic event has left the community in mourning as they grapple with the loss of a young life and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
