Big Smith News Watch Reports : Police are investigating a brutal murder and arson that occurred at Lot 22 Second Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, where a 50-year-old woman was tragically killed by her reputed husband before their home was set ablaze early Tuesday morning.

The victim, identified as Paula Abraham, was found lifeless on a blood-soaked mattress in her bedroom, wearing a yellow vest and black shorts. Authorities reported that she suffered a severe stab wound to the left side of her neck, and the bedding around her was stained with blood.

Disturbingly, despite parts of the house being engulfed in flames, Abraham’s body and the mattress showed no burn marks, indicating she was murdered before the fire was ignited.
Investigators revealed that Abraham shared the lower flat of the two-story wooden and concrete house with her reputed husband, 46-year-old Ishwar Singh, and their 24-year-old daughter, Preeta Singh. Preeta recounted that she was awakened around 1:30 AM by her mother’s terrified screams. Moments later, she felt the heat of the flames spreading through the home.
Preeta managed to escape through a southern door, raising the alarm as neighbors rushed to help. By this time, flames were already consuming furniture in the hallway. Witnesses reported seeing Singh staggering out of the house through a northern door, his body covered in burns.
The Guyana Fire Service was alerted and quickly extinguished the blaze; however, the upper flat of the home was completely gutted, while the lower flat suffered partial damage. It was only after the fire was contained that Abraham’s bloodied body was discovered in her room.
Singh, who had a documented history of abusing and threatening Abraham, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by relatives under police guard. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries by 10:10 AM. His body is now at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The shocking events have left the Cummings Lodge community in disbelief, with neighbors describing the chilling screams they heard and witnessing the fire tear through the home.
Several individuals have been questioned as investigators continue to probe this gruesome murder followed by arson, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
