News

In his first press conference since re-election, President Irfaan Ali announced the launch of a City Revival Plan aimed at beautifying and modernizing Georgetown.

The government has already invested billions in infrastructure over the past five years, and the President is ready to implement further projects. This sustainable plan will also extend to other towns and villages across the country.

“Georgetown is the heart of our nation, and we want it to reflect sustainability, heritage, and economic transformation,” President Ali stated.

Fifteen flagship projects will be initiated, focusing on recreational spaces, architectural heritage, and educational programs for behavioral change. The goal is to restore Georgetown’s identity as the “Garden City.”

Planned initiatives include a walking trail, rehabilitation of buildings into museums, and waterfront development in the Stabroek area to enhance its appeal and encourage business.

The President emphasized the need for government intervention to improve the city and announced that public education efforts will accompany these changes, particularly focusing on biodiversity.

The City Revival Plan is part of the government’s Low Carbon Development Strategy and will involve consultations on the overall project.
