Father of Seven Remanded on Attempted Murder Charge

Big Smith News Watch Reports : A 41-year-old father of seven, Oswald Wayne, has been remanded to prison after being charged with attempted murder and several other offenses following two separate incidents at Stabroek Market earlier this month.

Wayne, who resides at 97 Section A, Block Y, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He was not required to plead to the attempted murder charge.

It is alleged that on September 10, 2025, Wayne unlawfully and maliciously wounded Nelly Farley with intent to kill. Prosecutors indicated that Farley remains in serious condition and is currently unable to speak.

The police prosecutor objected to bail, highlighting the severity of the offense and the condition of the complainant. Magistrate McGusty upheld this objection, refusing bail and remanding Wayne to prison. The case is set to return to court on October 1 for a report on Farley’s medical status.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Wayne faces three other charges stemming from an incident on September 12, 2025, at the Stabroek Market Police Outpost. He pleaded not guilty to charges of behaving disorderly in a public place, using abusive language towards Police Lance Corporal Lynch, and assaulting the officer while he was performing his duties. Bail was granted for these charges in the amounts of $10,000, $10,000, and $15,000, respectively.

Wayne’s attorney, Audreanna Thompson, informed the court that her client is a father to seven children, most of whom are minors, and lives with his wife in Golden Grove. She urged the court to consider his family responsibilities. However, Magistrate McGusty ordered that Wayne remain in custody on the attempted murder charge as the case progresses.
