Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed has issued a statement regarding the closure of schools in Micobie due to a critical lack of water. He emphasized that more than 240 students are directly affected by the shutdown of Micobie Primary and Nursery Schools.

Reports from Region 8 confirmed that the schools were closed today because there is no water available for essential needs such as flushing toilets, washing hands, cleaning classrooms, or conducting the school feeding program. Since the beginning of the new term, students have faced days without meals from the feeding program due to the ongoing water crisis. Teachers have been compelled to fetch water from the Potaro River, which is located approximately 1,000 feet from their living quarters.
Mohamed highlighted that former Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, visited the area last week, yet no action has been taken to resolve the issue despite complaints from community members.
He urged the relevant authorities to intervene urgently and restore proper access to water in Micobie. “Now that we have highlighted this issue, we await your prompt action, as it seems that this administration only acts with urgency when certain matters are made public,” he stated.
Mohamed stressed the importance of ensuring that the children of Micobie can return to school and continue their education in sanitary conditions.
