Two men impersonating Ministry of Finance employees robbed a hotdog vendor and her grandmother at their home on Huist Dieren Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

The victim, Andrea Singh, 30, initially responded to the men, who asked for her grandmother’s identification. Suspicious of their behavior and the smell of alcohol, Singh became wary but ultimately let them in. The situation escalated when they brandished a toy gun, forcing her into the house while threatening her grandmother.
They stole four gold rings worth GYD $250,000, a gold band valued at $200,000, and approximately GYD $1.5 million and US $1,500 in cash. Singh’s screams prompted the robbers to flee.
Police quickly acted on the report and arrested one suspect, Alim Fareed, 39, hiding nearby. They recovered GYD $700,000, US $1,570, and marijuana from his possession. The second suspect, Nicholas Christopher, 27, was found nearby with additional stolen cash.
Both men confessed to the robbery, revealing they used a toy gun. The police also recovered the fake weapon and some of the stolen jewelry. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
