Vendors operating along the Railway Embankment in Buxton, East Coast Demerara, will soon be relocated to facilitate ongoing roadworks. Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill, accompanied by his technical team, inspected the site on Friday, which is set to be transformed into a market tarmac.

Minister Edghill confirmed that the property is government-owned and falls under the jurisdiction of the Buxton-Foulis Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC). With 42 vendors already identified for relocation, he has requested the NDC to select representatives to advocate for their collective interests.

The upgraded market tarmac will feature newly designed stalls, modern amenities, washroom facilities, and adequate lighting, creating a more attractive and comfortable environment for vendors. The completion of the work is anticipated within three weeks.

“You’re going to continue to vend until the tarmac is completed, and then we’ll transition,” Minister Edghill assured. He plans to return in three weeks to ensure the facility is ready in time for Christmas.

Additionally, the minister addressed residents whose properties are in the path of the road-widening project, informing them that their structures must be removed in the coming week to allow construction to proceed.
