
Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) intercepted a significant quantity of cocaine during an operation at a residence in Hydronie, Parika, East Bank Essequibo, on Friday.
Acting on intelligence, CANU officers searched the premises and discovered several parcels containing a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Three individuals were arrested and taken to CANU headquarters along with the suspected narcotics.
Preliminary testing confirmed that the substance was indeed cocaine, with a total weight of 23.958 kilograms (52.82 pounds). Authorities have indicated that investigations into the seizure are ongoing.
This interception is part of CANU’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking operations across Guyana.
