Update: Man Committed to Stand Trial for Alleged Rape at Soesdyke Bar

News

Barry Sullivan has been formally committed to stand trial for an alleged rape incident at Raghoo’s Bar in Soesdyke. Police confirmed that Sullivan was arrested on July 28, 2025, after his name resurfaced in a video circulating on social media.

Sullivan was charged two days later and made his initial court appearance before Magistrate Tamika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court on July 31, where he was remanded to prison.

The case has seen multiple adjournments for the submission of full disclosure and the receipt of the accused’s statements from July 31 through November 27. On November 25, the proceedings advanced via paper committal, during which all relevant statements were read, admitted, and presented as evidence.

Magistrate Clarke ruled that a prima facie case had been established against Sullivan, leading to his commitment to stand trial at the next available sitting of the Demerara Sexual Offences Court.

The trial is anticipated to proceed as authorities continue to gather evidence and prepare for the upcoming court sessions. Further updates will follow as the case develops.
