Authorities have launched an investigation following the discovery of a suspected RF-15 rifle and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at 77 Miles, Unamco Road. This incident is part of a concerning trend of firearm finds reported across Guyana in recent days.

The discovery occurred around 11:30 AM on Tuesday during routine patrols in a remote jungle corridor. Police ranks searching the area came across several makeshift camp sites along a trail. A thorough inspection led them to a hammock in one of the camps, where the rifle was concealed with a magazine containing thirty live .223 rounds.
No individuals were found at the scene, leading police to believe the camp may have been vacated shortly before the operation commenced. The weapon and ammunition have been transported to the Mackenzie Police Station for safekeeping pending further investigation, though no arrests have yet been made.
This latest find contributes to a worrying pattern of firearm recoveries that have occurred over the past week. Police have responded to incidents involving high-powered firearms discovered in vehicles, hidden within homes, concealed in farmlands, and abandoned along roadways across Regions Three, Four, Five, Six, and Ten. In multiple instances, authorities also seized ammunition, magazines, and other components linked to firearms.
Senior police officials have noted that the rising frequency of these discoveries highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal arms trafficking networks and recover unlicensed weapons in both urban and hinterland communities. The authorities attribute these findings to increased patrols, targeted intelligence operations, and greater cooperation from residents reporting suspicious activities.
As investigations into the recent Unamco discovery continue, police are urging individuals with information that could help identify those responsible for stashing the rifle to come forward.
