The Guyana Police Force is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Friday around 5:00 PM at Red Road, ‘D’ Field, Sophia.
According to reports from Police Headquarters, officers responded to a report of larceny and arrived at the scene to apprehend a 35-year-old suspect from the Cummings Lodge Squatting Area. Upon their arrival, the suspect allegedly became aggressive, assaulted an officer, and attempted to flee custody.
The police statement detailed that the suspect armed himself with a glass bottle and threatened the ranks. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, officers attempted to communicate with the suspect, but he continued to advance aggressively. In response, one officer discharged his service weapon, resulting in an injury to the suspect’s left foot.
Following the incident, the suspect was subdued and transported to the Turkeyen Police Station. He was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical treatment, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The police force has stated that investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
