Kenty Bacchus, also known as “Trini,” has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of taxi driver Kenrick Trim in June 2021. The sentencing took place on Tuesday, with Bacchus, 38, formerly of Water Street, Kingston, Georgetown, admitting his role in the crime alongside his co-accused, Seyon James, known as “Lil Alfey,” who is expected to be sentenced later this week.

Acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh in the Demerara High Court began with a baseline sentence of 40 years. After considering Bacchus’s early guilty plea, plea deal, and both aggravating and mitigating factors, the final sentence was determined to be 30 years. The prison will also account for any time Bacchus has already spent on remand.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that Bacchus has prior convictions for possession of narcotics with intent to traffic, including a one-year prison sentence and a fine of $57,000, or three months in prison for defaulting on the fine.
The agreed-upon facts indicate that on the morning of June 30, 2021, Bacchus and James entered Trim’s taxi, registration HC5311, outside Beacon Café on Carmichael Street. They overpowered the driver by choking him and stabbed him multiple times before stealing his belongings. Trim’s body was later discovered abandoned in bushes behind Pradoville, Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Trim died from hemorrhage and shock due to multiple stab wounds, coupled with compression injuries to the neck. The police recovered Trim’s cellphone from Bacchus, who subsequently provided recorded video and audio interviews admitting his involvement and identifying both himself and James on CCTV footage.
James, who also pleaded guilty, is still awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled to take place later this week.
