Gold Miner Fatally Stabbed During Altercation at Cuyuni River

Michael John Benn, a gold miner from Charity on the Essequibo Coast, was fatally stabbed on Sunday during an altercation at a liquor shop in Aranguy Landing, Cuyuni River.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 02:00 hrs. Benn became involved in a confrontation with two males, during which he sustained stab wounds to his chest.

One suspect has been taken into custody and is currently assisting police with the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect.

Benn’s body is currently held at the Aranka Police Station, pending transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
