Financial Support for Persons with Disabilities to Boost Small Businesses

News

In a significant move to promote financial independence, ten individuals living with disabilities were each awarded cheques of $500,000 to start or expand their small businesses, part of a $5 million initiative announced by officials.

The financial support was facilitated through a partnership between the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, specifically its Support Services for Persons Living with Disabilities Unit, and the Small Business Bureau (SSB). This initiative is designed to enhance economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable groups.

During the cheque presentation ceremony, Human Services and Social Security Minister Vindhya Persaud emphasized the importance of focus and commitment. She stated that access to practical resources is crucial for meaningful empowerment and urged recipients to make the most of the grants.

The recipients expressed their gratitude, noting that the grants provide a valuable opportunity to grow their businesses and achieve long-term stability, especially during the Christmas season. The initiative highlights the government’s efforts to support inclusivity and self-reliance among persons living with disabilities.
