Colin Anderson, also known as “Strongy” or “Biggs,” a 25-year-old gold miner from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, has been charged in connection with the murder of Michael John Benn. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Aranguy Landing along the Cuyuni River.

On Monday, Anderson appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were formally read to him. He was not required to enter a plea at this time.
Anderson was subsequently remanded to prison, with the case adjourned until Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The victim, Benn, who was also a gold miner from Charity on the Essequibo Coast, was reportedly at a local liquor shop when he engaged in an altercation with two men. During this incident, Benn sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest, which proved fatal.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as they gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the altercation and its aftermath.
