Vendors operating along New Market Street and in the vicinity of the Georgetown Public Hospital will soon be moved to a nearby parking lot, as announced by Town Clerk Candace Nelson.

The decision comes after the hospital’s lawyer sent a letter indicating that legal action would be pursued if the vendors did not vacate the area within three days. Speaking to the News Room on Thursday, Nelson explained that the relocation decision followed consultations aimed at addressing the situation.
“We went out there to assess the situation and decided to move the vendors who are still plying their trade on New Market Street to East Street, where the parking lot is,” Nelson stated. This measure is intended to prevent the vendors from returning to their previous location.
The parking lot currently has several unattended caravans. City Engineer Colvern Venture has been tasked with issuing notices to the owners, requiring them to remove their caravans if they are not being utilized. “If they don’t remove them, the council will take action to remove them, and the vendors will subsequently be placed there,” Nelson added.
According to Nelson, the vendors have been consulted and are aware of the relocation plan, and they have agreed to move further east on New Market Street, away from the hospital entrance. Caravan owners will be given one week to remove their vehicles while the vendors begin their relocation. The full transfer of vendors is expected to be completed within two weeks.
