Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of residents across the nation during a community engagement event held in Canal No. One Polder.

Accompanied by Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vikash Ramkissoon, and Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, Manickchand emphasized the importance of open community meetings as a means to foster nationwide improvements. She stated that these dialogues are integral to fulfilling the government’s constitutional responsibility to engage with citizens directly.

“It’s very easy to list all the problems; that’s the easy part of governing. The hard part is finding solutions that are sustainable and meet your needs. That’s where we come in,” the minister noted. She expressed the government’s eagerness to hear not only about challenges but also successes, which can be replicated in other communities.

The community meeting facilitated open discussions, allowing residents to share their concerns and contribute to the development of practical, sustainable solutions. Manickchand highlighted that the Ministry has already initiated engagements in Region Four, where several communities in Central Georgetown are undergoing significant redevelopment efforts.

As both a Cabinet member and a parliamentary representative for Region Three, Minister Manickchand assured attendees that their concerns would not only be addressed at the community level but also raised in the National Assembly when necessary. “We’re not only ministers in the cabinet; we are your geographical representatives. And we will take up your issues in the National Assembly,” she affirmed.

The event aimed to strengthen communication between the government and residents, fostering collaboration to improve the living conditions and overall well-being of communities throughout the country.
