A 26-year-old fisherman and a 63-year-old woman were arrested on Thursday following a police operation that resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected cannabis at their residence in Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
According to a release from Police Headquarters, the operation was conducted at approximately 20:00 hours. Officers carried out a search of the premises and discovered a black plastic bag hidden in the kitchen area. Inside the bag were several small zip-lock plastic bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems, believed to be cannabis.
Both individuals were taken into custody and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station along with the suspected illegal substances. The cannabis was weighed in their presence and totaled 82.11 grams before being processed and secured for further examination.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the matter.
