Two men, Dyal Simon and Adonayi Hoyte, were brought before Magistrate Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges related to the possession of a significant quantity of cocaine. The duo was jointly charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, involving 22.934 kilograms of cocaine.

During the court proceedings, Hoyte pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail set at GYD$200,000. In contrast, Simon pleaded guilty and was subsequently convicted. The court sentenced him to four years in prison and imposed a substantial fine of GYD$33,951,000.
The case stems from investigations carried out by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU). Further proceedings regarding the charges against Hoyte are pending as the legal process moves forward.
