Jason Stephaney, a 27-year-old businessman from Greenheart Street, South Ruimveldt, has been arrested and charged with fraudulent conversion, a violation of Section 197(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

The arrest occurred on September 19, 2025, and Stephaney is accused of committing the offence over a period from June 2024 to September 2025 at King Street, Georgetown. It is alleged that he fraudulently converted a sum of G$22,000,000.
Stephaney appeared in Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #1 on January 23, 2026, before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty. The indictable charge was read to him; however, he was not required to enter a plea at this stage.
He was granted bail set at $300,000, with the conditions that he lodges his passport with the court and reports to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters on the last Friday of each month until the matter is concluded.
The case has been adjourned to February 13, 2026, at 09:00 hrs for further proceedings.
