HGP NIGHTLY NEWS Reports | After years on the run, Philbert McPherson, a former armed robbery accused, has been arrested in Suriname and returned to Guyana following an Interpol notice. McPherson, who fled the country while on High Court bail, has been sentenced in absentia to seven years’ imprisonment for robbery under arms and illegal possession of a firearm.

Police sources confirm that McPherson will now be escorted to prison to begin serving his sentence, amid pending additional criminal matters linked to his name.
McPherson was charged in 2018 and had appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutors alleged he was found in possession of a firearm without a valid license and was facing multiple charges of robbery under arms at that time. Despite the severity of the allegations, he was granted High Court bail, after which he absconded to Suriname.
His disappearance stalled judicial proceedings in Guyana, prompting local authorities to seek international law enforcement assistance.
In addition to his previous charges, McPherson was also named a suspect in the 2019 murder of Collis Collison, known as “Juvenile,” who was shot and killed on March 21, 2019, in Albouystown. This murder occurred while Collison was celebrating his birthday during Phagwah festivities. Investigators suggested that the killing stemmed from a longstanding vendetta involving another former convict. While no murder convictions have been secured in this case, police have indicated that investigations remain active.
With McPherson’s return, law enforcement officials are finalizing arrangements to ensure he is formally committed to prison, thereby closing the chapter on his years of evasion and reopening scrutiny into unresolved violent crimes associated with him.
