HGP Nightly News Reports | A security guard at Lovely Supermarket in Triumph has been arrested following a shooting incident on Saturday afternoon. The guard, identified as Omeshwar Surujnauth, was on duty when he shot a customer during a confrontation around 4:15 PM.
According to reports, Surujnauth, employed by Force Security Service and armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, confronted a shopper, Carlos Gonzalez, along with two of his relatives, as they were leaving the supermarket after making their purchases. An argument ensued when the guard instructed them to vacate the premises.
During the altercation, Surujnauth allegedly discharged his weapon, striking Gonzalez, a 30-year-old Venezuelan resident of La Bonne Intention, in the instep of his left foot.
Emergency services and police were called to the scene, and Gonzalez was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Surujnauth was apprehended at the location, with his service firearm and ammunition seized by authorities. His hands were swabbed for gunshot residue, and the shotgun was photographed and lodged as evidence. Investigators processed the area, recovering items including a slipper believed to belong to Gonzalez, an empty shotgun casing, and metal fragments. CCTV footage from the supermarket was also obtained for review.
The security guard is now being processed for court as the investigation continues.
