Under the leadership of Minister Hon. Dr. Vindhya Persaud, the RRT is designed to act swiftly in response to reports of child abuse, thereby reducing the risk of further harm and prioritizing the safety of children. Minister Persaud emphasized the importance of the initiative during the 2026 Budget Debate, stating, “This team will always be available after hours to act and respond to every report of child abuse. We are piloting this programme in Regions Three and Four, with the intention of rolling it out across the entire country.”

The RRT operates as a specialized unit within the CPA, focusing on high-risk and emergency cases. Its members collaborate closely with the Guyana Police Force, medical facilities, and other critical partners to ensure a coordinated and effective response to incidents of child abuse.

The key responsibilities of the Rapid Response Team include:

  • Escorting children for medical care when needed.
  • Removing children from unsafe or harmful environments.
  • Arranging emergency placements and follow-up support services.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and a smooth handover for continued care and monitoring.

The public is encouraged to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect by contacting the CPA Hotline at 227-0979 or the Ministry of Human Services Hotline at 914.

The establishment of the RRT underscores the Ministry’s commitment to adhering to national and international child protection standards and highlights its devotion to safeguarding children and upholding their rights. The Ministry continues to urge citizens to participate actively in this mission, reminding everyone that protecting children is a collective responsibility.
