Leon DeFreitas, a 36-year-old DJ from Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke Linden Highway, has been committed to stand trial for his role in inciting the sexual assault of a young woman at Raghoo’s Bar on Soesdyke Public Road in July 2025. The decision was made by Magistrate Tameika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court.
In a related development, DeFreitas’s co-accused, Ryan Ramnarine, a music selector, was freed of the charge after the Magistrate upheld a no-case submission from Ramnarine’s lawyer, Bernand DaSilva.
The charges stem from a disturbing incident that occurred on July 13, 2025, when a 20-year-old woman was publicly raped. The victim alleged that she had been drugged and assaulted by three men, and the horrific act was captured on video and circulated widely on social media, leading to significant public outrage.
Additionally, another accused individual, Barry Sullivan, has also been committed to stand trial in connection with the incident. The case has garnered considerable attention due to its severity and the societal implications surrounding the issue of sexual violence.
