Kaieteur News Reports | An employee of the National Communications Network (NCN) was arrested on Monday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after allegedly being found in possession of a suspected firearm.

The cameraman, who had been assigned to record the proceedings of the high-profile Mohamed extradition case, had only recently started his job with NCN. Sources indicate that he was not originally scheduled to work that day but received instructions from a senior government official to cover the hearing.
According to reports, the incident unfolded as the cameraman concluded his recordings. An alarm was raised regarding an object resembling a firearm that was reportedly tucked in his waist. Police officers stationed at the court responded swiftly and conducted a search of the individual. During this search, they allegedly uncovered an object that looked like a gun.
When questioned by the police, the cameraman claimed that the weapon was merely a toy. Despite his assertion, he was detained and placed in the court’s lock-ups. His mobile phone and the suspected firearm were confiscated for further investigation.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the cameraman held a license for the firearm. The Guyana Police Force has not issued an official statement regarding the incident at this time.
