A man identified only as ‘Mikey’ has been found dead near the Cuyuni River, prompting police to take five men into custody as investigations progress.
According to a release from Police Headquarters, the alleged murder occurred sometime between Saturday, February 28, 2026, around 9:30 PM, and Sunday, March 1, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mikey was staying at a farm in the area with other workers. On Saturday evening, he reportedly left the camp to visit a nearby shop accompanied by another male. His lifeless body was discovered on Sunday morning, several meters away from the shop.
Upon examination, the body was found to have multiple stab wounds to the upper body. It was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital for an official pronouncement, and will later be transported to the Bartica Mortuary, where it will await a post-mortem examination.
Police have arrested five males, including individuals who were reportedly with Mikey prior to the discovery of his body. These suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
