Public Works Minister Juan Edghill has issued a no-nonsense warning to anyone considering setting up vending stalls along road shoulders where the Corentyne Highway widening project is underway making clear that immediate removal will follow, with no prior notice given.

Speaking to stakeholders as construction continues along the corridor, Edghill was unambiguous about how the Government intends to handle any attempts to encroach on the road reserve.
“Any new vending along any thoroughfare where the project is being executed, no notice will be given,” the Minister said, delivering a blunt message to would-be vendors: “The same day you come out, the same day you leave the road.”
Edghill made clear that enforcement will be applied equally to all, dismissing any expectation of special treatment or political intervention on behalf of individuals.
“Nobody will come and tell me, ‘Oh, he is a Comrade’…” he stated, signalling zero tolerance for attempts to use personal or political connections to circumvent the rules.
The Minister also directed local government bodies including Neighbourhood Democratic Councils, councillors, and other community officials to ensure the message is clearly communicated within their communities and strictly adhered to as the project progresses.
Authorities have stressed that keeping the road reserve clear is essential both to the safety of road users and to the integrity of the multi-billion-dollar infrastructure works currently being executed along the Corentyne Highway corridor. Residents and vendors are being urged to comply with the regulations as development continues.
