President Dr. Irfaan Ali convened an urgent meeting with fuel importers at State House on Monday, where he was briefed on the challenges contributing to current fuel shortages across the country and assured that shipments are expected as early as tonight.

At the meeting, importers informed the President of shipping delays that have led to a surge in demand for fuel. Guyoil indicated that while shipments are on the way, the company is also actively working to secure additional supplies to meet the heightened demand.
Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency, Dr. Mahender Sharma, were also present at the meeting.
The Government of Guyana said it is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring that the supply of fuel is stabilised as quickly as possible.
