News Room Reports : Fifty-six-year-old Troy Alleyne, who was critically injured in an alleged gas cylinder explosion at his East Ruimveldt, Georgetown home, has succumbed to his injuries.

Alleyne died while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Tuesday morning, having been admitted with severe burns about his body following the incident.
According to police, the explosion occurred at approximately 02:32h at the family’s Pineapple Street and Front Road residence. His wife, Melissa Alleyne, woke to a strong smell of gas and alerted her husband, who went to investigate the source.
“I seh Troy come. Tell me if is just me smelling gas or if just me nose. Couple seconds after all I hear ‘boom’. All I see everything red and everything moving like flame red and everything moving,” Melissa told reporters.
Police said the eastern side of the building collapsed and caught fire as a result of the explosion. Public-spirited citizens in the area assisted the family, after which Alleyne was transported to hospital. Melissa noted that her husband was conscious and responsive at the time.
“Troy was responsive. He was talking and thing. He tell me he feeling strong and I seh Troy is weh the gas was smelling from and he said is downstairs in we kitchen, the hose did leaking,” she said.
The Guyana Fire Service responded and extinguished the blaze. The area was subsequently processed by police ranks, and CCTV footage from cameras in the vicinity is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
