News Room Reports : A quiet Wednesday evening in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was shattered when armed bandits carried out a brazen robbery targeting a family at their residence.
According to preliminary police investigations, the ordeal began when a 53-year-old housewife and a 24-year-old woman returned home and were about to enter their residence when they were confronted by two masked men armed with what appeared to be handguns.
The suspects relieved the younger woman of her cellular phone before striking the housewife on her forehead with one of the weapons and taking her purse, which contained a cellular phone and $20,000 in cash.
The bandits then forced their way into the lower flat of the home, where they encountered the housewife’s young daughter and her younger siblings. The children were also robbed, with the suspects taking a tablet computer and another cellular phone.
After executing the robbery, the perpetrators fled the scene and joined two accomplices who were waiting on separate black XR motorcycles, heading north.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
