Update: Carpenter Killed After Two-Storey Building Collapses at Atlantic Gardens

News Room Reports : A two-storey concrete structure that collapsed during ongoing construction works at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday evening has claimed the life of one man and left seven others injured.

Dead is 46-year-old carpenter Radesh Domingo of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred at approximately 19:10 hours while Domingo and several other workers were engaged in construction on the building. Reports indicate that the men were in the process of completing work on the roof when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping them beneath the debris.

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service were immediately summoned to the scene, where rescue efforts were quickly initiated. The injured workers were transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and Sheriff Medical Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Domingo was found pinned under the rubble. He was extricated and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was subsequently identified by a female relative and transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Investigators have noted the presence of CCTV cameras at the location, which are expected to be reviewed as part of efforts to determine the cause of the collapse. Police investigations are ongoing.
