A Layne Avenue man and his neighbour have been placed on a lifetime bond to keep the peace following a dispute that culminated in the cutting of an electrical cord.

Brandon Mars, 26, appeared before Magistrate Orinthia Smith at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges of abusive language and damage to property. The court heard that on Thursday, at Layne Avenue, Georgetown, Mars allegedly used abusive language against his neighbour Alisson Charles and damaged her electrical cord, valued at $800, during a neighbourly misunderstanding that escalated into the incident.
Mars made no attempt to deny the act, telling the court plainly, “Yes, I did cut the cord; I cut her thing.”
The prosecutor requested that both parties be placed on a bond given that they reside in close proximity to each other. Magistrate Smith obliged, placing both Mars and Charles on a lifetime bond to keep the peace. Mars was additionally granted $10,000 bail and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine for damage to property, with two weeks’ imprisonment imposed as the alternative if the fine goes unpaid.
The matter was adjourned to April 24, 2026.
