Dead is Niftan Persaud of Abram’s Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, who resided with his father.

According to reports, Persaud borrowed his father’s boat on Sunday afternoon to visit his child’s mother at another village along the Pomeroon River. When he failed to return home, his father began making enquiries at Charity, Essequibo Coast, on Monday. While there, he received a call from his son’s child mother asking about Persaud’s whereabouts — confirming that the young man had never arrived at his destination.

Further checks revealed that residents in the vicinity of Jacklow along the Pomeroon River had heard a loud impact on Sunday evening. The father proceeded to the area, where he spotted his boat floating in the river. An examination of the vessel revealed damage to the right side under the bow.

A search party was subsequently formed and Persaud’s body was recovered from the Pomeroon River. Parts of the man’s body had reportedly been bitten off by fish.

The matter has been reported to the police and an investigation is underway.
