The decomposing body of an elderly pensioner was discovered at his residence along Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice on Saturday, after neighbours detected a strong odour emanating from his home.

According to reports, the man had been living alone in the lower flat of a two-storey wooden and concrete property for several months. Neighbours said they noticed a powerful stench in the vicinity of his home on Saturday, prompting one woman to enter and check on him. It was there she made the grim discovery.
“We din smelling the thing, and I peep by the door and I see he. Couple days we ain’t see he. Yesterday we start smell. He din swell up and so when they bringing he out,” the neighbour recounted.
Residents immediately contacted an ambulance and the New Amsterdam Police. Just after midday on Saturday, the man’s remains were removed from the location and taken to Bailey’s Funeral Parlour.
Many details about the deceased remain uncertain. Those acquainted with him said he was believed to be in his 70s and operated a push cart at the New Amsterdam Market. It is believed he had been suffering from an unknown illness prior to his death.
