The findings bring a final, somber conclusion to the incident that occurred this past Sunday when the Victoria Village couple disappeared beneath the waves while visiting Unity Beach.

The discovery of the couple’s bodies on Tuesday followed an extensive 48-hour search and rescue operation. The mission involved a multi-agency effort, including ranks from the Mahaica Police Station, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard, and local volunteers who combed the Atlantic shoreline.

The bodies were ultimately discovered Tuesday morning entangled within the mangroves along the Unity coastline.

According to police accounts of the day, the couple was swimming with a group of friends and relatives when the incident unfolded. Reports indicate that Ms. Waldron drifted into deeper, more treacherous waters and cried out for assistance. Mr. Francis, a Special Constable, immediately attempted a rescue but was quickly overcome by the Atlantic’s powerful currents. Both individuals disappeared shortly thereafter, leaving the community in shock.

The confirmation of drowning as the cause of death underscores the persistent dangers associated with the currents at Unity Beach, an area that has unfortunately seen multiple similar fatalities in recent years.
