Mathis Jacobis, a 33-year-old fisherman from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, and Paramakatoi Village, Region Eight, has been remanded to prison following his appearance at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Jacobis appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan to face a charge of Possession of Ammunition Without a Licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05. The charge follows the discovery of four live 12-gauge cartridges in his possession.
After the charge was read to him, Jacobis entered a plea of not guilty. Magistrate Chandan denied bail, and the defendant was remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned until July 2, 2026.
