In a major effort to improve service delivery and accessibility, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) officially launched a new payment initiative on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. This expansion provides over 60,000 pensioners with greater convenience in receiving their monthly disbursements.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced that pensioners now have the option to encash or exchange their vouchers at a significantly wider range of locations across the country. The initiative adds 4,779 new payment locations to the existing network, which already includes 14 NIS offices, 63 post offices, and several commercial banks.
The new payment partners include:
MMG Agents: 4,672 locations
MoneyGram: 55 locations
Bill Express: 52 locations
Speaking at the launch event held at the Herdmanston Lodge in Queenstown, Minister Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that senior citizens receive their benefits without the burden of long waits. “We want them to receive their pensions in a dignified, convenient, and comfortable manner. They should not have to join a line to receive their pension,” the Minister stated.
In addition to these new options, the NIS continues to encourage the use of direct bank deposits. Currently, approximately 20,000 pensioners have already opted for this method, which provides a seamless and automated way to receive their monthly funds.
The expansion represents a significant step in the modernization of the NIS payment system, aimed at reducing travel time and administrative hurdles for Guyana’s elderly population.
