A 24-year-old resident of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison on Friday after being charged with manslaughter.
Balram Persaud, also known as “Pakakie” or “Akash,” appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. The charge, brought under Section 94 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, was read to the defendant during the proceedings.
Persaud was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. Following the hearing, Magistrate George ordered that he be remanded to prison.
The matter has been adjourned until July 23, 2026, for further proceedings.
