This initiative, introduced in the 2026 National Budget, is designed to provide financial relief to pensioners for daily travel needs, such as accessing medical clinics, grocery shopping, or visiting family.

The Ministry has outlined a streamlined process for pensioners to collect the funds:

For Pension Book Holders: Pensioners should visit their nearest Ministry of Human Services and Social Security office with their 2026 pension book. Ministry staff will stamp the first of the two final pages marked “For Official Use Only” to verify the $20,000 entitlement. Once stamped, the book can be presented at any designated post office or approved payment agency (Western Union, MoneyGram, or SurePay) to collect the cash.

For Direct Deposit/Electronic Recipients: Pensioners who already receive their monthly pension via direct bank deposit or through MMG (Mobile Money Guyana) will have the transportation allowance automatically deposited into their accounts.

Minister Persaud emphasized that the program is intended to be as “seamless and easy” as possible, ensuring that seniors across the country can access this support without unnecessary administrative hurdles.
