The Guyana Fire Service received a distress call regarding the blaze at approximately 1:25 p.m. today, July 3, 2026. While three fire tenders were dispatched immediately and succeeded in containing the blaze to the single structure, they were unable to rescue Mrs. Singh, who was home alone at the time.

Her son, Narine Singh, who shared the home with her, had left the premises earlier in the morning to run errands. He returned to find his home engulfed in flames and was subsequently informed of his mother’s death. According to Mr. Singh, there was no cooking or open flames in the house, as they typically relied on meals provided by family members.

A neighbor reportedly noticed smoke billowing from the top flat of the residence and raised an alarm, prompting a group of nearby residents to attempt a rescue. Despite their swift efforts to force entry, they were unable to locate Mrs. Singh inside.

The Guyana Fire Service has launched an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
