Baramita Mechanic Sentenced to 12 Months and Fined Over $2M on Drug Charges

A 63-year-old mechanic from Baramita was handed a 12-month prison sentence and substantial fines on Monday after pleading guilty to narcotics trafficking charges.

Kevin Bess, also known as “Generator Man” of Barama Line, Baramita, appeared via Zoom at the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Robindranauth Singh.

Facing two separate counts of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, Bess entered guilty pleas to both charges. The court handed down the following penalties:

Cannabis Charge:12 months’ imprisonment and a fine of $1,750,000 for 1,180.7 grams of cannabis.

Cocaine Charge:12 months’ imprisonment and a fine of $326,000 for 23.1 grams of cocaine.

Magistrate Singh ordered that the prison terms run concurrently, leaving Bess to serve a total of one year behind bars alongside cumulative fines amounting to $2,076,000.

The charges stem from a police operation conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in the vicinity of Warapa, Baramita.According to law enforcement reports, ranks stopped and searched Bess during the operation, uncovering the quantities of cannabis and cocaine in his possession, which promptly led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
