The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) has officially launched its “Enhancement of Child Care and Early Learning Facilities and Development Services Grant” to promote excellence and create safe spaces for children. The grant was introduced on Wednesday during the “International Day of Play – Play With a Purpose” event held at Unique’s Daycare, Pre-school, and Nursery School in La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.

In her feature address, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Hon. Dr. Vindhya Persaud, emphasized the importance of investing equally in childcare facilities and human resources. She announced that the grant aims to support privately owned daycare facilities in becoming centres of excellence.
“Today, I proudly announce that we will be launching a Childcare and Development Grant, which will be given to ten care centres in regions two, three, four, five, six, seven, and ten,” Minister Persaud stated. Each selected care centre will receive $200,000 to elevate their facilities beyond minimum standards and towards excellence.
Minister Persaud assured attendees that the support would not end with the grant. “These centres will continue to be nurtured and guided by the CPA team until every centre in this country reaches that stage of excellence, encompassing both their physical appearance and human resources,” she added.
The grant will be distributed annually to facilities that meet the necessary requirements, reinforcing the Government of Guyana’s commitment to fostering holistic development for children and ensuring they receive proper care. This initiative aligns with the CPA’s mandate to keep “Every Child Safe.”
The launch also showcased plans for developing the ten new centres of excellence, modeled on the successful implementation seen in Region 3.
