In a Social Media Post Varsha Ramlakhan Highlighted – A distressing incident has emerged involving a pet owner in Cummings Lodge who refused to spay their dog despite receiving advice to do so. The matter was reported to the Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA); however, no assistance was provided to the individual who made the report.

Tragically, the same dog has now suffered severe damage to her eye. Instead of seeking medical help, the owners abandoned her on the street, treating her like garbage. Now, they expect the very person who has been using her own hard-earned money to care for strays to take responsibility for their cruelty and negligence.
This incident highlights the shortcomings of Guyana’s animal protection laws, which currently allow such owners to face no consequences for their actions. Animal welfare advocates are calling for stronger regulations and enforcement to prevent further abuse and abandonment.
The community is left questioning: when will this cycle of neglect end? When will justice be served for the voiceless animals in our society?
