Ahead of Elections
News Room Reports : As Nomination Day for the upcoming elections approaches, the Alliance for Change (AFC) has submitted a new proposal for a coalition with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU). This proposal, submitted on Tuesday evening, is currently under review by APNU, though party insiders indicate that some aspects remain contentious.

In this latest proposal, the AFC has significantly reduced its demand for seats and positions from an initial 65% to 35%. This adjustment reflects the party’s willingness to negotiate in the interest of forming a coalition.
Key elements of the proposal include:
The AFC’s desire to nominate the Prime Ministerial candidate.
Appointment of an independent Representative of the List, acceptable to both parties.
The nomination of the Speaker for the National Assembly, who would also need APNU’s approval.
A stipulation that the appointment of additional Ministers or Junior Ministers under a coalition government requires the consent of both parties.
The establishment of a new Ministry or Commission of Planning, which would encompass the transportation sector.
A senior AFC member revealed to News Source that APNU is firm in its belief that it should have the authority to choose or agree to the AFC’s nominee for the Prime Ministerial position. This condition is viewed as unacceptable by AFC officials, especially as the AFC plans to fully support APNU’s presidential candidate.
As Nomination Day draws near, senior AFC members are actively exploring a way forward amidst these negotiations, highlighting the urgency of reaching an agreement.
